THE OPPORTUNITY
Michelin has an immediate opening for a Site Fire Specialist to oversee, manage, and enhance fire safety systems and emergency response protocols in a high-paced, operational facility. This position aligns directly with Michelin’s core values by fostering a culture of safety, preparedness, and protection for employees and assets. The primary purpose of this role is to strengthen fire prevention strategies, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and lead initiatives that reduce risk and safeguard the site.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Maintain and improve fire protection systems and emergency response protocols.
- Lead fire drills, safety training, and emergency preparedness activities for employees.
- Conduct fire risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and maintain documentation.
- Coordinate with local fire departments, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to facilitate inspections, audits, and incident investigations as needed.
- Participate in safety committees and cross-functional teams promote safety-first.
- Analyze data from incidents and near misses to drive continuous improvement in fire prevention strategies and emergency preparedness.
- Champion new technologies and innovative solutions that enhance fire prevention, detection, and suppression systems at the plant.
- Inspect, test, and maintain fire service equipment.
- Respond to emergency events and support incident command operations.
- Collaborate with plant security and the onsite medical team during abnormal events, providing critical support to ensure a coordinated, timely, and effective response to emergencies and safeguarding the well-being of personnel and assets.
- Support and facilitate the authorization of safe work permits, ensuring that all high-risk activities are properly assessed and controlled before commencement.
- Role assigned to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Minimum requirement: 400 documented hours of active firefighting experience in an industrial or municipal setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact in a professional manner with external partners, suppliers, customers, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and process/product relationship knowledge.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office® Suite and ability to learn internal software systems.
- Familiarity with fire safety measures and controls, as well as knowledge of NFPA standards.
- Experience in emergency medical response and safety hazards assessment.
- Attention to detail, data accuracy.
- Advanced knowledge of fire suppression techniques, including the use of hoses, extinguishers, and foam systems.
- Skilled in conducting thorough fire risk assessments and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Skilled in specialized rescue operations (e.g., confined space, high-angle).
- Proficient in operating and maintaining firefighting equipment.
- Ability to instruct or mentor others in fire safety, emergency response protocols, and firefighting standard processes.
- Familiarity with incident command systems (ICS) and multi-agency coordination.
- Capability to perform detailed post-incident analysis and reporting to support continuous improvement.
- Minimum education requirement: High school diploma/GED
